MEMPHIS CITY COUNCIL
   CRIME REWARD PROGRAM
 
The Memphis City Council set up a cash reward program to pay up to $5,000 to individuals who provide information leading to the capture and conviction of murderers.

The Director of Police Services compiled a list of unsolved, heinous offenses that qualify for the reward program.

These are the names of those victims and details of their homicides.
 
Calvin Riley, 53
 
On Thursday, March 3, 2005, at 12:58 am, a complainant called the police and reported that she was checking on the well being of her neighbor, at 1224 Carlton, and found the front door open. She looked inside and found Calvin Riley lying on the floor bleeding from what she thought was a stab wound. Officers and Paramedics arrived on the scene and Riley was pronounced dead on the scene. Investigators later learned that the victim had been shot once in the back and once in the right hand. His home had also been ransacked. A neighbor advised the victim had several visitors during the night.

• Marco Antonio Calero, 35
 
On Friday, January 27, 2006 at 6:45 pm, officers were flagged down regarding a shooting in the Whitebrook Apartments, at 3929 Whitebrook Plaza. Officers observed a Latino male lying the parking lot behind a 1995 Ford van suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. Witnesses stated they heard the victim, identified as Marco Antonio Calero, M/H, 35, screaming and when they looked out they saw two male black suspects standing over the victim.  The suspects fled in a small white vehicle, described as a Corsica or Cavalier. A short time later this vehicle was described in a robbery of male Latinos on Blanding.  

• Cora Gatewood, 83
 
On Sunday, April 2, 2006, at 11:29 am, officers were dispatched to 2686 Deadrick to check on the well being of Cora Gatewood. After arriving on the scene, they spoke with a neighbor who had not seen Ms. Gatewood in the last two day, which was unusual. MPD forced entry into the home and found the victim lying in the bedroom across her bed. She was pronounced dead on the scene by MFD Paramedics.  The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.

• Napoleon Yates, 42
 
On Monday, September 11, 2006, at 9:40 pm, officers responded to an armed party call at 1712 E. Holmes (Granny’s Market). After arriving on the scene, officers found a 2000 red GMC pickup parked on the lot with several bullet holes in the driver’s window. Officers found the victim, who was later identified as Napoleon Yates, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The suspect was last seen wearing an orange shirt, tan pants and was last seen fleeing the scene in a white Lincoln Continental driven by another male black.

• Jack Lassiter, 78
 
On Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at 9:44 pm, officers were called to 1787 Dabbs to check on the well being of the homeowner, Jack Lassiter. After arriving on the scene, a complainant advised officers that the front gate to the residence had been forced open and two of the victim’s vehicles were missing. The officers entered the residence through a back door and found the victim’s body inside. An autopsy was performed finding that the victim died from blunt force trauma. 

• Deryck DeShaun Davenport, 23

 
On Wednesday, December 27, 2006, at 2:55 pm., officers responded to a shooting at Winchester Cove and Winchester. After arriving on the scene they found the victim inside of his vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The victim, Deryck Deshaun Davenport, was pronounced dead on the scene by MFD Paramedics. Witnesses told investigators that the victim left Sneaky Pete’s Restaurant and got inside of his vehicle with a female. The suspect walked up to the driver’s side window and began shooting striking the victim in the head. The victim drove south on Winchester Cove and then east on Winchester where he struck a pole. The female jumped out the vehicle while it was moving and the suspect shot at her, but she was not hit.
 
• Joey Lacey, (age unavailable)
 
Joey Lacey was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound by police at 435 Capewood Drive on Dec. 11, 1994. He was the victim of an apparent robbery where an expensive leather coat was taken.

Family and friends are offering a $25,000.00 reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for these homicides that occurred in 2003 and 1996:
 
Kelly Clayton Wilson
 
Kelly Clayton Wilson was killed around 3 a.m. May 31, 2003 on Gayoso at Second St. in downtown Memphis. He was walking to his car after leaving work at Automatic Slims. Two people in a dark SUV were seen driving away after shots were fired. To this day, no one has been charged with his murder.

Family and friends are offering a $25,000.00 reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for his murder.

Sidney Arthur Cavill
 
On Tuesday, June 18, 1996 at 11:45 p.m., Mr. Sidney Arthur Cavill, a 26-year-old white man was found shot to death.
 
Cavill, an out of town truck driver from Billings, MT was apparently lost and turned westbound in the turning lane in front of 3497 Knight Arnold. He was found in his 1982 white Ford Fairmont, four-door, with Montana license plates. There was damage to the car where it had been sideswiped.

Several calls have been received to CrimeStoppers, but one caller's phone went dead while talking to us. We are asking this person to please call back.
